The IMAGINE campaign arrives at a unique time in our life together. There is a fresh Wind of the Spirit blowing in our midst. As we look to the future we see that God continues to unfold the steps he has for Southern Hills Baptist Church, and we are committed to follow as His Spirit prepares to take us farther than any of us could ever IMAGINE.

Construction was completed in April of 2009. We want to give a huge thank you to ALL of our members and guests for being so understanding and flexible during our changes.

Some Imagine History

Starting in 2005, Southern Hills Baptist Church began the Imagine process.  During the Master Planning phase we had a dream night and those in attendance brainstormed suggestions on different areas of ministry and were asked to prioritize importance.  It was determined from that input that the Preschool Ministry was the top priority followed by Children’s Ministry and Student Ministry. Also there was a grassroots need for improved Women’s restroom facilities as well.  A Facility Committee was then formed and commissioned to guide next steps, and from that emerged a decision that we should not relocate but remain at out present location at 56th & Lewis and renovate our current facility, and if possible provide additional square footage for the priority ministries. 

We began the Imagine Campaign in March of 2007 with a goal of $4,000,000. The Imagine Campaign was established to provide funding to purchase the Chevy Chase property to the north of SHBC as well as fund a major remodel plan to provide that irresistible environment which will enable us to much more effectively reach out to the next generation for Christ and minister to our community. The Imagine Campaign concluded in June of 2007 receiving $3,225,220 in commitments over 3 years from 185 SHBC families. By the end of 2007 we had received $1,314,000 of which was used to pay off the debt on the Chevy Chase Property. The Chevy Chase property was purchased in December 2005 and paid off in December 2007. Currently, (as of May 2009) we have received a total of $2,198,304.

Selser-Schaefer, the architectural firm was contracted to develop the design, drawings and specifications for the project and is a working partner with us in this project.   

Cowen Construction Co. was selected on January 16, 2008 to be the construction contractor for the Imagine Project.

The remodel of the new administrative offices at the Southern Village west building was completed in August 2008 and the Youth moved back into their new space at the South end of the church building in September 2008. Our Orchard (children’s) and Greenhouse (preschool) areas were completed in April of 2009.

By the way, the construction phases have not stopped us from providing ministry throughout the building thanks in large part to the flexibility of our wonderful people and guests. 

Thank you for your understanding during the “construction” mess both inside and outside the building. Although the construction is creating some temporary challenges for our members and guests there is great excitement as we progress towards our ultimate completion!  Thank you for your continued financial support and prayer support of Imagine.
