The IMAGINE campaign arrives at a unique time in our life together. There is a fresh Wind of the Spirit blowing in our midst. As we look to the future we see that God continues to unfold the steps he has for Southern Hills Baptist Church, and we are committed to follow as His Spirit prepares to take us farther than any of us could ever IMAGINE.

Construction is underway in several areas and we want to voice a huge thank you to ALL of our members and guests for being so understanding of our mess. Thanks for enduring meeting in rooms “under construction” or moving to other rooms temporarily. Thank you for putting up with the temporarily blocked parking lot entrance and parking changes. Everyone is pitching in and remaining upbeat about the temporary changes and Sunday morning Life Group attendance is actually increased over last summer – so don’t let our growing pains keep you away. See you Sunday!

Imagine Building Program Update

Selser-Schaefer, the architectural firm contracted with to develop the design, drawings and specifications for the project is now about 70% complete with their work. They anticipate having construction drawings and specifications completed for the SHBC Building Committee’s review by April 1, 2008.

Cowen Construction Co. was selected on January 16, 2008 to be the construction contractor for the Imagine Project. They are currently developing pre-construction estimates and working with Selser-Schaefer on value engineering opportunities for the final design stages of the project.

The remodel of the new administrative offices at the Southern Village west building were completed in August and the Youth moved into their new space at the South end of the church building in September 2008.

Construction work on the Imagine Project is currently underway in several areas: The main lobby, new main lobby women’s restroom space, the Children’s ministry area, the new library/media center and the new West lost walkway and covered awning are projected to be completer by January 2008.

Thank you for your understanding during the “construction” mess both inside and outside the building. Although the construction is creating some temporary challenges for our members and guests there is great excitement as we progress towards our ultimate completion!

Financial Update

We began the Imagine Campaign in March of 2007 with a goal of $4,000,000. The Imagine Campaign was established to provide funding to purchase the Chevy Chase property to the north of SHBC as well as fund a major remodel plan to provide that irresistible environment which will enable us to much more effectively reach out to the next generation for Christ and minister to our community. The Imagine Campaign concluded in June of 2007 receiving $3,225,220 commitments over 3 years from 185 of SHBC families. By the end of 2007 we had received $1,314,000 of which was used to pay off the debt on the Chevy Chase Property. The Chevy Chase property was purchased in December 2005 and paid off in December 2007. Currently, this year to date we have received an additional $72,000.
